Poe Classical is a kindergarten through sixth grade magnet school on the south side of Chicago in the historic North Pullman community. The school serves a diverse population of academically talented students. The mobility and attendance rates are impressive, as well as our 100% promotion rate. Schoolwide 100% of Poe students met or exceeded state standards on the ISAT in reading math and science for the 2006-2007 school year. This trend continues.
Poe Classical is proud to be on the Illinois Honor Roll for the second consecutive year, earning the Academic Excellence Award. We earn this proud distinction because our students met or exceeded state standards in both reading and mathematics for at least three consecutive years.
The school offers a rigorous program of study designed to prepare students for success at the junior high level. Our curriculum offers instruction one year above grade level in reading and math, and Spanish, general, vocal and instrumental music and visual art and art appreciation at all grade levels. Additionally, technology is integrated into the instructional program and used to promote parental involvement through our use of an online grade book that allows parents and students to monitor student progress. Poe has a long standing partnership with the Ravinia Festival.
